Key Information for Drone Pilots in Laos

📋 Registration Process

Registration takes 2-3 weeks. Required documents include passport copy, drone specifications, proof of ownership, and completed application form. We assist with the entire registration process.

⚖️ Legal Framework

Laos follows ICAO guidelines with local adaptations. DCA (Department of Civil Aviation) oversees all UAV operations. Commercial operations require proper licensing and insurance coverage.

🚁 Airspace Restrictions

Restricted zones include airports (5km radius), military bases, government buildings, and border areas. Check DCA airspace maps before flying. Special permits required for controlled airspace.

💰 Costs & Fees

Registration fee: 200,000-500,000 LAK depending on drone category. Commercial license: 1,000,000-2,000,000 LAK. Annual renewal: 500,000 LAK. Insurance typically 500,000-2,000,000 LAK annually.

📱 Useful Apps

DJI Fly, DJI GO 4 for flight control. UAV Forecast for weather conditions. OpenSky Network for airspace awareness. Airmap or DroneDeploy for flight planning and mapping.

🛠️ Equipment Import

Drones can be imported for personal use with proper declaration. Commercial import may require additional permits. Batteries must comply with airline regulations when flying to Laos.

🎋 Cultural & Ethical Guidelines

Religious Sites

Always seek permission before flying near temples (wats), pagodas, and monasteries. These sacred sites require respect and prior authorization from local authorities or monks.

Village Etiquette

When operating in rural areas, inform village leaders or elders before flying. Respect privacy, avoid flying over homes without permission, and be mindful of noise disturbances.

Wildlife Protection

Maintain safe distance from wildlife, especially in protected areas. Avoid disturbing nesting birds or endangered species. National parks require special permits for drone operations.
